What is the information I have provided in the questionnaires used for?

A large number of Australian and international studies have used information gathered by the kConFab Clinical Follow-Up Project. The research has been published in international peer-reviewed scientific journals. These completed studies mean we now have a much better understanding of:

·         Which genetic changes impact cancer risk, and by how much
·         How non-genetic factors, such as lifestyle choices, affect cancer risk
·         The uptake by kConFab participants of interventions that reduce cancer risk and where improvements could be made

These study findings mean that we are now better at estimating a woman's individual risk of cancer and knowing what we can do about it. For more information, please visit the Publications page.            

I’m not sure what my breast cancer risk is, can you tell me who I should talk to about this?

Your GP is your best point of contact for any referrals to a Family Cancer Clinic, who can offer assistance with genetic testing and risk management.

To better understand your personal breast cancer risk you can also visit iPrevent. iPrevent is a personalised, evidence-based tool that will generate a report you can take to your GP to assist their consultation with you. The iPrevent report tells you what your personal breast cancer risk is, suitable breast cancer prevention and screening programs and personalised lifestyle advice. 

How do I get my genetic test results?

Any tests undertaken when you entered the study were obtained for research purposes. If you would like further information about this, please contact kConFab on 1800 221 894 or 0800 230 029 (for New Zealand participants).

Where can I go to get more information on receiving genetic testing?
